2022 Preparing for EAB Grants Program and AmeriCorps Informational Webinar

Date & Time: Tues., February 15, 12pm-1:00pm Webinar Description: Join us for a packed virtual informational session on programs that can support your community forest. Jonathan Osthus of MDA will present on why it's important to proactively manage for emerald ash borer in all areas of Minnesota, including where EAB does not yet exist. He will also speak to the successes of slowing the spread of EAB, and what that can mean for municipal budgets. Emma Schultz of DNR will provide an overview of the $1.6 million available in community grants through the 2022 Preparing for EAB program. She will also talk through what makes a successful grant application, and address frequently asked questions. Then stick around to learn about how the AmeriCorps can support your community! 1 ISA CEU available. Audience: All local units of government across Minnesota (grant applications must come from local units of government); outreach specialists who interact with communities; entities who may wish to partner with local units of government on grant applications. Speakers: Jonathan Osthus, EAB Technical Assistance Coordinator, MDA; Emma Schultz, Community Forest Project Specialist, DNR; Candice McElroy, State Program Administrator, MPCA; Cristina Villella, MPCA; Dylan Kelly, Community Forestry Corps About the MN GreenCorps Program: The Minnesota GreenCorps program, coordinated by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, aims to preserve and protect Minnesota’s environment while training a new generation of environmental professionals. Each year, the program places AmeriCorps members with host site organizations around the state to help communities increase resilience to climate change. Members serve at their host sites, from mid-September through mid-August, on projects focused on air pollutant reduction, community readiness and outreach, green infrastructure improvements including community forestry, and waste reduction, recycling, and organics management. Minnesota GreenCorps is now accepting applications from organizations interested in hosting a member for the 2022-2023 program year. Learn more and apply by Tuesday, March 22, 2022. |
