Roots in Minnesota Campaign Official Launch

The Roots in Minnesota (RIM) campaign has been a  successful collaboration and partnership between the Minnesota Shade Tree Advisory Committee (MNSTAC) and CEL. MNSTAC strongly believes in the RIM message and is wholeheartedly promoting and supporting this initiative. To provide a clear, concise and consistent message regarding the care of community trees, enhances our profession and care of trees by simply promoting vital shade tree information.  As President of MNSTAC and a participant of the RIM campaign, I urge others, particularly municipal arborists, to consider investing in RIM through your stormwater utility budgets, as several of us have (RIM serves as a portion of the Education Minimum Control Measure for your MS4 State of MN Stormwater Permit).  The proper and correct information, the links, exposure  and contacts that RIM provides,  in one website, is something our Arboriculture community has been in need of for some time.   Jim Vaughan, MnSTAC President

MnSTAC Members:
Do you plan to have Roots in Minnesota?

You know that:

➢ Stronger storms and EAB will eliminate 1/3 of Minnesota’s community tree canopy in the next 20-30
years.
➢ Community forests are comprised of the top 3 vulnerable species.
➢ Communities planted only a few tree varieties in the aftermath of Dutch Elm Disease.
➢ More than 80% of available land for planting and managing trees in cities is on private property.

MnSTAC has identified “outreach to residents” as its highest priority for protecting and enhancing
tree cover.

Do your part. Join your colleagues in Saint Paul, Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, Minnetonka and
Chanhassen in utilizing MnSTAC’s Roots in Minnesota Campaign. Budget for your toolkit that has
everything you need to educate homeowners on the value of trees and motivate tree planting and care
in the community/communities you serve.

Find the toolkits at www.rootsinminnesota.com or call our campaign partners at CEL Public Relations

Roots in Minnesota Campaign
Puts Tree Care Information in Homeowner Hands

Roots in Minnesota is designed to capture the attention of Minnesota residents, educate them on the value of trees, and motivate tree planting and care, building on the fine work you do for public trees.

MnSTAC members have the opportunity to purchase a campaign toolkit for easy distribution/implementation. The campaign is sanctioned by MNDNR-Division of Forestry, MSA, and MnSTAC, and meets MnSTAC’s strategic objective of making urban forestry outreach a priority. It is patterned after the successful Kentucky Roots Campaign in Northern Kentucky that is capturing the attention of urban foresters across the country.

We’ve done the work for you. The Roots in Minnesota Toolkit has the materials you need to implement the campaign, beginning on Arbor Day 2015.

For more information or to purchase a toolkit, contact:
Kari Logan at CEL Public Relations.
