Board Meeting Minutes

September 9, 2002 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 p.m.

Twin City Tree Trust, St. Paul MN

 

 

 

Attendees:     President Lori Stromme, Kirk Brown, Jim Hermann, Gary Johnson, Ken Holman, Mike Max, Rich Hauer, Robert Slater

Guest: Dave Hanson

 

Call to Order.  The meetings was called to order at 9:10 a.m. by President Lorrie Stromme, on September 9, 2002

 

Approval of Minutes. The Minutes of the 7-8-2002  board meeting were reviewed.  Motion/Second/Carried:  Mr. Brown, Mr. Herman, Approved

 

Announcements:

 

Mr. Hermann  -  DED update.  Discussion folled on: higher rates than past years, possible new strain “resistant” to Alamo?  More aggressive sanitation and treatment are needed.  Budgets are tight at Mpls Park Board due to the increase in DED.

 

Mr. Johnson  -  Article on two lined chestnut borer in St Paul Pioneer Press.

 

Mr. Brown  -  The Newsweek had an article on exotic pests across the country.

 

Pres Stromme  -  Field tour had 23 TCAs and 15 non.

                         -  Photo contest

                            -  Spiking at Ashfield NC

 

Mr. Holman  -  Tagging Urban Forestry and Hazard Tree issues along with “Fire Wise” program.

 

Pres Stromme  -  Elections are coming in December.  Mr. Brown and Mr. Max are up for election.  Will ask Ken  Simons to look for possible candidates.  Discussion followed concerning TCAs as members and Urban Forestry Club representation.

 

R. Hauer  -  MSA announcements:  approximately 30 people are pre registered for the conference.  New Secretary Mark Shippe, Treasurer Katy Himanga.

 

Old Business

 

Nicollet Island Brochure discussion, How to get trees tagged?  Brochure on website possibly at Mpls Park Board, MN/STAC.

 

E-News.  Several positive responses.  Get out line at bottom that reads:  “to get a hard copy.....”

 

Advocate.   Contract moving ahead.  The idea of a $10 fee discussed and when to take to the general membership.  Who would setup account to keep money “separate.”  How would the mechanics work, collection, management, voluntary, outreach?

 

Outreach Northern MN.  No action on new chair.

 

New Business:

 

Future speakers for membership meetings was discussed.

 

-  Ken Brackee   Carlton College grounds

-  Ramsey Tree Ord. using Tree Ord CD

-  Minnehaha Park, 5 years after Construction (Mr. Ralph Sievert and Mr. Ron Warner.

-  Comprehensive Planning Success

-  Site visits, 10 years after MN/Releaf

-  Condition Rating exersizes

-  Outstate meeting (St Peter tornado damage and recovery?)

-  Emerald Ash Borer, Steve Katovich

-  St. Paul GIS

 

Meetings.  Discussion of new locations Bachmans on Lyndale, the MN Horticulture Society Building as the new “normal” meeting site.  Bachmans requires that meetings be open and that there be 4 other one hour sessions on a plant subject.

 

Mr. Holman, Ms. Janette Monear and Mr. Mark Schnobrich will be speaking at the Minnesota Planners Association Conference.

 

Adjournment.  Motion/Second/Carried:  Mr. Holman, Mr. Brown, Approved.  The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
