Committee Ex Board Meeting Minutes
November 7 2000 3:00-5:00 p.m.
MN Dept. of Agriculture, 2nd Floor Conference Room, St. Paul, MN
Persons attending Glen Shirley, President, Michael Max, Mark Stennes Ken Holman, Robert Slater, Dwight Robinson and Kirk Brown. Janet Larson and Gary Johnson were excused.
Meeting called to order at 3:29 p.m. by President Glen Shirley
Approve Minutes of 10 October Max / Slater / Passed
Glen Shirley updated the board on the progress of the strategic plan. The plan was mailed to Committee Chars for their comment today. The Planning Committee expects to have feedback from all of the committees prior to the December meeting.
Mike Max discussed options in his development of the MnSTAC data base.
Mike sought Board input on how to determine a member in good standing It was decided that members would self certify their continued involvement in urban and community forestry through a mailed questionnaire.
There was a discussion on how to keep the Advocate mailing list current and it was resolved that a questionnaire should be included with an Advocate mailing. If people want to continue to receive the Advocate, they must return a post card or questionnaire. If the post card or questionnaire is not received they will be removed from the mailing list.
Motion: Research and Education Committee and Mike Max develop a combination membership and Advocate questionnaire to be included with the next Advocate mailing. The goal of the questionnaire will be to determine members in good standing and to update the Advocate mailing list. Holman/ Slater/ Passed
There was a discussion on how to designate, in the data base, the area served by MnSTAC members. Many options were discussed, there was no resolution to the discussion.
Ken Holman followed up his comments at the October MnSTAC meeting concerning agency participation in the Legislative process. He stated the Commissioner has directed all units in the DNR not to share information with engaged state holders at this point in time.
