Meeting
Minutes for December 7th, 1999, Board of Directors Meeting Persons attending: Glen Shirley, President; Ken Kolman; Mark Stennes; Gary Johnson; Bob Slater; Katie Himanga; and Kirk Brown. Meeting called to order at 3:06 pm by President Glen Shirley. Approve Minutes of October - with the correction of Don Mueller's name: Johnson/Slater/Passed Gary Johnson reported that the Legislative Report was nearing completion. He complemented Mark Schnobrich for all his efforts in pulling the report together. He stressed that it is important that the Advocate remain a source of valuable information. They're 12 pages, every announcement; report or other use reduces the articles and other pertinent information. In a response from the nomination committee recommendation, since there are only two applicants for the executive board and two positions, the board will appoint the two applicants and have the full board vote on the appointments at the January meeting. Move to appoint Mark Stennes and Janet Larson to the two non-designated Director positions that are currently open. The appointments will be presented to the board at the December meeting and voted on at the January meeting. Johnson/ Himanga/ Passed. Katie Himanga reported that 30 people participated in the MSA workshop in Chatsfield. There was a suggestion that a presentation be made by practicing urban forestry consultants at one of the MnSTAC meetings. Members need to know the types of services they provide and how to utilize their services effectively. There is also a need to have a list of practicing urban forestry consultants and the services they provide. MSA seems to be the logical choice to maintain the list. Mark Stennes presented information on establishing an endowed chair in urban tree health at the Department of Plant pathology at the U of MN. The chair is being sought in the name of Dr. David French. Information will be presented at the MnSTAC meeting. The meeting adjourned at 4:40 pm. Respectfully submitted, Kirk M. Brown
