TREEORD Software for Tree Ordinance Development Saves Time, TreesUnique new software for cities is now available to help them develop ordinances that will ensure the future of their community forests. TREEORD, an interactive CD-ROM, was developed by Katie Himanga and Peter Bedker for Tree Trust with a grant from the USDA Forest Service. TREEORD allows cities to develop a tree ordinance that reflect the unique assets of their community. It contains a database of over 1,800 clauses from more the 200 ordinances from throughout the United States. Cities tap into this information as they respond to the interview format of the software. Already tested by cities across the US, the software has received rave reviews. Gerald Miller of Ely, Nevada, for example, called TREEORD "a lifesaver! We've struggled with the ordinance for two years and with TREEORD we put one together in a month." The software is designed to be easy to use, but covers many difficult issues related to setting up a Tree Board, planning and zoning conflicts, inventorying trees, responsibilities for tree maintenance, etc. It includes guidance on bringing together a constituency to develop and review the ordinance. The cost of TREEORD is $60 plus shipping and handling. Click here to download an order form (.pdf file) from our community resources or contact us at the addresses below. |
